The blue green microalgae Spirulina platensis is an important source of nutrients. An important obstacle for the production of Spirulina is Rotifer. In this paper we present a method for automated identification and recognition of rotifer contamination in Spirulina using image processing techniques. Getting the expert's advice is an essential one to improve the production. Our primary objective is to provide high nutrients Spirulina free from contaminations and secondary objective is to solve the quality issue by identifying rotifer contaminations at the earliest and giving suggestions through the mobile phones. Using microscopic examination for identifying rotifier in live culture is time consuming and manmade process. There is a chance for man made error and our new technique is machine made and the errors to be minimized. Existing system need qualified persons for operation and our proposed system can be operated by anyone. We examine lab scale Spirulina culture through both existing and new techniques for recognizing the rotifer. Our proposed tool for identifying contaminations at beginning stage is easy to eradicate the contaminations from live culture. It will be helpful to biologist to take necessary actions against contaminations of the same before further multiplications of contaminations. According to the Survey of Sun food Super Food, in 2020 the expected world wide Spirulina production is about 220 thousand tons. Hence Spirulina can be a solution for solving the world nutrition problems due to its very high growth rate and high nutritional value. Our research-automatic identification of contamination in algae through the processing of mobile phone images is an easiest way for improving and evaluating the growth of Spirulina for effective cultivation of algae.Keywords

Signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) is a latent transcription factor whose activation plays immense role in cell proliferation, survival, differentiation and development. Activation of STAT3 relies on phosphorylation at tyrosine residues promoting dimerization and subsequent nuclear translocation and activation of transcription. This study explores the relation between STAT3 and activated STAT3 (p-STAT3) in malignancy of breast. A high expression of STAT3 was found in breast cancer compared to adjacent normal breast tissues. A significant correlation between STAT3 and p-STAT3 was also observed. We also examined possible associations of these biomarkers with various clinicopathological parameters of breast cancer patients. The results revealed that both STAT3 and p-STAT3 are strongly associated with some of the major risk factors of breast cancer. Our findings implicate that targeting STAT3 signalling pathway could be an effective therapeutic approach for breast cancer.Keywords

A field experiment was conducted at the Instructional Farm, College of Agriculture, Vellayani, Thiruvananthapuram during January 2012 to March 2014 to find out the effect of grass-fodder cowpea mixtures and row ratio on the growth characters of fodder grasses and fodder cowpea in open and in partial shade. The experiments were laid out in RBD with three replications, comprising of two grasses [G1-Hybrid napier (Suguna), G2-Guinea grass (Harithasree)], two fodder cowpea varieties (V1-COFC-8 (open and shade), V2-UPC-622 (open), UPC-618 (shade) and three grass legume row ratios (R1-1:1, R2-1:2, R3-1:3). The results indicated the superiority of the grass legume mixture of hybrid napier cv. SUGUNA with both the fodder cowpea varieties in the grass legume row ratio of 1:3 with respect to yield and quality of fodder crops in open and shaded experiments.Keywords

Imbalances in energy metabolism can lead to complex disorders that are characterized by abnormal eating behaviour and body weight, namely cachexia and obesity. Both these disorders form two ends of a spectrum where in cachexia arises as a result of greater catabolic state and obesity results from chronic imbalance between energy intake and energy expenditure. A great deal of evidence suggests that a complex network of peripheral and hypothalamic signal contributes to the regulation of energy homeostasis. Ghrelin is one such signal playing on important role in regulation of food intake. Ghrelin is today predominantly viewed as a central modulator of energy homeostasis and is regarded by many as an attractive target for indications with impaired energy imbalance.- Association between Psychological Distress and Occlusion among Temporomandibular Disorder Patients-A Clinical Study

Background:TMD is a multifactorial disorder significant research efforts have been invested in finding its etiologies and management to improve their quality of life.Objectives: To evaluate and compare digital occlusal parameters, depression, anxiety and serum cortisol level between temporomandibular disorder patients and control group.
Material and Methods: A sample size of 24 TMD patients and 24 apparently healthy age and sex matched controls were recruited in the study. The patients occlusion time and disclusion time was recorded using T-Scan III, the level of anxiety and depression was evaluated by using Hospital Anxiety and Depression scale questtionaire and serum cortisol was evaluated by collecting fasting blood sample, under aseptic conditions.
Results: The incidence of premature contacts (occlusal interferences), clusion time and disclusion time was significantly longer in TMD group than in control subjects. The anxiety and depression scores were statistically significant in TMD group compared to control group, but no statistically significant difference was observed in serum cortisol levels.
Conclusion: The present study demonstrated increase in the premature contacts i.e occlusal interferences were high with increase in clusion time, disclusion time, anxiety and depression scores in TMD group, where as no significant increase in serum cortisol levels was seen among TMD group even though their anxiety and depression levels were high. Hence, patients with temporomandibular disorders should always be evaluated for stress and anxiety along with the T- Scan evaluation of occlusal prematurities and correction of the same.

Tsunamis occur rarely on Earth but their impact is devastating. This paper describes the system components that make up the second-generation Deep-Ocean Assessment and Reporting of Tsunamis system (DART II), which comprise a critical portion of a tsunami forecast, warning and mitigation system and also summarize the recently used sensors in Indian Tsunami Warning System. The Indian Tsunami Early Warning System (ITEWS) based at Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), operates on 24x7 basis and has the functions of monitoring seismological stations, bottom pressure recorders (BPRs) and tidal stations throughout the Indian Ocean Basin to evaluate potentially tsunamigenic earthquakes and disseminating tsunami warning information and also evaluate the Earthquake parameters. The development of techniques adopted to detection of Tsunami is a continuous process and it has lot of scope for researcher and people those working in this area.Keywords

This research proposes an improvement of iris personal identification system using Radon transform which is used to extract feature stored as templates in a database. In Personal identification using iris images, the computational complexity in the feature extraction from the normalized iris images is still of key concern and further efforts are required to develop efficient feature extraction approaches. In this paper, we investigate a new approach for the efficient and effective extraction of iris features using Radon transforms. In our research, Euclidean distance is used for distance measurement.

Background: Vanet the recent emerging technology in the recent industry has grabbed the attention with advanced techniques and extricate framework of sophisticated equipments. Initially absence of an infrastructure in this network has communication constraints for the nodes involved therein. Adding to this the dynamic topology makes the network more vulnerable for potential targets of security and reliability of data diffusion within these nodes. The communication standard i.e. 802.11p have some optional channel rejection in the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing in the Physical layer which motivated to work on the reliability methods of data dissemination. Methods: To start with the hidden terminal issues of these networks have to be addressed which can be resolved by frame capture. This frame capture quality in turn is determined by the Contention window of the Physical layer. Hence an adaptive mechanism that involves forward Error correction (AFEC) which helps to overcome packet losses in an efficient way in midst of channel fluctuation, burst packet loss. The results are simulated in NS2 (2.34) with static packet size of 512 bytes. Findings: The experimental results demonstrated that the FEC mechanism is more adaptive in adjusting and controlling the data redundancy across the network for static and dynamic channel fluctuations. The redundancy rate was further reduced with an adaptive technique on the Contention Window size, which had considerable effects of every transmission on the delay, through put and jitter. The centralized FEC algorithm is set on an adaptive platform where each vehicle updates its back off window size at the end of each Observation Time depending on the priority of the message received. The feasible part of this algorithm is that it can be implemented on the MAC layer, which has a Reception Module. Consequently, the proposed mechanism under various network conditions performs well in terms of QoS for emergency messages than the conventional methods for a less volume of data. Application/Improvements: The algorithm can be analyzed from a traffic scenario of two-way highway and rural areas. The progress of the work can also be carried out for multimedia messages.Keywords

Earlier in 1950’s only rich people had air conditioners at home. Today even middle income group tend to buy Air Conditioners to have a good cool at summer at home. In this situation it becomes essential to study the impact of brand equity on customer satisfaction and purchase intention of air conditioners in Chennai. Brand equity helps the marketers to sell profitably. Brand awareness is nothing but having good knowledge about the brand. Marketers do this by intense advertising. This research paper aims to study the brand equity and its impact on customer satisfaction and purchase intention of air conditioners users in Chennai. The methodology used for this research paper is stratified random sampling by collecting questionnaire from 650 respondents in Chennai. That data will be analyzed using statistical tools using SPSS software. The results will be useful to air conditioners makers and marketers to sell profitable.

Field experiment was conducted at the Instructional Farm, College of Agriculture, Vellayani, Thiruvananthapuram during January 2012 to March 2014 to find out the effect of grass-fodder cowpea mixtures and row ratio on the growth characters, yield and economics of fodder grasses and fodder cowpea in open and in partial shade. The investigation was conducted as two separate experiments, one in open and another in shaded situation (25-35 % shade). The experiment was laid out in RBD with three replications, comprising of two grasses [G1-Hybrid napier (Suguna), G2-Guinea grass (Harithasree)], two fodder cowpea varieties (V1-COFC-8 (open and shade), V2-UPC-622 (open), UPC-618 (shade) and three grass legume row ratios (R1-1:1, R2-1:2, R3-1:3). The results indicated the superiority of the grass legume mixture of hybrid napier cv. SUGUNA and with both the fodder cowpea varieties in the grass legume row ratio of 1:2 with respect to growth characters, green fodder yield and net returns. Based on the results, it can be concluded that hybrid napier cv. SUGUNA intercropped with fodder cowpea varieties COFC-8 and UPC-622 in open condition and with COFC-8 and UPC-618 in partial shade (30 %) in the row ratio of 1:2 is the best for obtaining maximum yield, quality and net returns.Keywords

Steganography is the art of hiding the fact that communication is taking place, by hiding information in other information. Many different carrier file formats can be used, but digital images are the most popular because of their frequency on the Internet. For hiding secret information in images, there exists a large variety of steganographic techniques some are more complex than others and all of them have respective strong and weak points. Different applications have different requirements of the steganography technique used. In this paper presents hiding the data behind the image then encrypt the image by using hyper-chaos encryption algorithm. In this algorithm, shuffling matrix and diffusing matrix are generated based on Chen’s hyper-chaotic system. Firstly, the Chen’s hyper-chaotic system is used to shuffle the position of the image pixels, and then use Chen’s hyper-chaotic system to confuse the relationship between the original image and the cipher image.Keywords

A novel method of detecting Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) disease using image processing algorithms is discussed in this paper. AML is an high risk disease which should be diagnosed early. AML detection is challenging, and should be performed by a qualified hematopathologist or hematologist. This paper discusses an automatic detection of AML using image processing methods. The algorithm consists contrast enhancement, Local binary pattern detection and Fuzzy C mean clustering technique. This Automatic detection method will helps the hematologists for easier identification and early detection of leukemia from blood microscopic images which will improve the chances of survival for the patient. A fuzzy based two stage color segmentation strategy is employed for segregating leukocytes or white blood cells (WBC) from other blood components. Discriminative features i.e. nucleus shape, texture are used for final detection of leukemia.Keywords

Many elder groups have been studied to determine their frequency of dry mouth complaints and their salivary flow rates. To appreciate these it is first necessary to understand two related concepts. First, complaints of dry mouth (or xerostomia) may not reflect reduced salivary function may instead reflect dehydration or other systemic conditions. Therefore studies that only examine the complaints of dry mouth will not reflect the true risk for oral diseases in the population. Second, it is very difficult to determine values for normal salivary function. Other studies suggest that salivary flow rates in elders are related to the number of medications they take on a regular basis, time number of systemic disorders they report, and the length of time for which they consume the drugs.Keywords
